Essential Oils

Updated: Jun 19, 2018

Recently I started making essential oils. These plant oils have many uses, depending on the kind of oil. The problem is, that you have to distill about 2 1/2 liters of water to produce 2 1/2 liters of hydrosol (basically scented water), and about one ml. of actual oil! Essential oils are quite expensive but not if you think of how hard they are to make. I have mint in the garden that could easily take over the whole garden, so, why not distill it? You can make oil from all kinds of things: plants, herbs, flowers, conifer tree needles, and other growths of all sorts. Hydrosol also has many uses. Also many people will buy hydrosol. To make these oils you will need some kind of distillation equipment. Organic chemistry glassware should do fine, (that's what I use). You can get a set on Ebay quite cheaply: https://www.ebay.com/itm/new-advanced-organic-chemistry-lab-glassware-kit-24-29-29pcs-lab-glassware-kit/151085900799?hash=item232d6be3ff:g:XTsAAOSw~bFWGmGbe

Here is one setup I used:
